Lead Safe Renovator 8 Hours – $170 – This one-day course focuses on working safely with lead-based painted surfaces.
- This course is required by the State of Iowa and the EPA for anyone (for profit, or non-profit) working in or on pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities.
- This includes, but is not limited to work such as: Painting, Siding,Windows, Gutters, Roofing, Flooring, Countertops & Cabinets, Window Treatments, Garage Doors, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC & Mechanical, Maintenance Workers, Handyman Services, Landlords, Specialty Wiring, etc.
- Training certification must be renewed every 3 years by taking the 4 hour refresher course.
- This course is approved by the Iowa Plumbing & Mechanical Systems Board for 8 hours of continuing education credit.
Lead Safe Renovator Refresher 4 hours – $90 – This half-day course is for individuals that have already taken an approved lead-safe work practices course prior to February, 2010, and for individuals that need to renew their Lead Safe Renovator certification. This course is approved by the Iowa Plumbing & Mechanical Systems Board for 4 hours of continuing education credit.
Lead Abatement Contractor 40 hours – $525 – This forty-hour course focuses on the permanent removal and encapsulation of lead-based paint, including OSHA and HUD requirements, interpretation of lead inspection reports, safety, rules and regulations.
Lead Abatement Worker 24 hours – $375 – This three-day course focuses on the control and removal of lead-based paint, including OSHA and HUD requirements.

Updated Lead Abatement Contractor & Worker Refresher 8 hours – $185 – This one-day course is for individuals that have already been certified in lead abatement and need to renew their certification. NEW! When you take this Abatement Refresher training (only available from Iowa Lead Safety) it will satisfy lead safe renovator certification/refresher course.
Lead Abatement Worker to Contractor 16 hours – $350 – This two-day course enables an individual who has already been certified through the 24 hour worker course to upgrade to a lead abatement contractor.
Reciprocal Abatement Contractor 8 hours – $200 – This one-day course allows an already certified abatement contractor outside of Iowa to become certifiable in Iowa.
Sampling Technician/Visual Risk Assessor 20 hours – $625 – This course qualifies individuals to perform visual inspections and clearance testing after interim controls of lead-based paint hazards are performed in accordance with the Iowa Department of Public Health rules and regulations.
Sampling Technician/Visual Risk Assessor Refresher 8 hours – $200 – This one-day course is for individuals that have already been certified as a sampling tech/visual risk assessor and need to renew their certification.
Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor 40 hours – $1200 – This five-day course qualifies an individual to perform lead inspections and identify and manage lead hazards. Topics include responsibilities, evaluation and assessment, owner/occupant relations, hazard reduction plans, XRF testing, HUD guideline protocols and regulatory issues.
Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor Refresher 16 hours – $400 – This two-day course is for individuals that have already been certified as a lead inspector/risk assessor and need to renew their certification.
Lead-Based Paint Hazard Awareness & Safety - 3 hours – $30 – This course is designed specifically for property owners, property managers and real estate professionals that may not need the full 8-hour training and Lead Safe Renovator certification course, but need to know what the rule is, how it applies to your current business practices and how to comply with the rule. This course is approved for continuing education credit through the Iowa Association of Realtors.
